WHO I AM
I'm An Roos, a Belgian director with long experience in the world of opera. After graduating from R.I.T.C.S. of Brussels in 1978, I began my career collaborating with the Belgian state radio B.R.T., where I hosted the classical music program Met 1 Wakker until 1983. Over the years, I had the opportunity to work as an assistant director alongside great masters such as Gilbert Deflo and Tito Gobbi, and then became titular director at the Flanders Opera in 1982. In 1986 I moved to Italy as a freelance director, continuing to work in Belgium, France, Spain. I have collaborated with important conductors, including J. Acs, G. Bartoli, F. Celis, J. Delacôte, G. Morelli, M. Rota and A. Leone. Over the course of my career I have directed numerous masterpieces of the operatic repertoire, including: Rossini – Il barbiere di Siviglia, Cinderella / Puccini – Turandot, Madama Butterfly, La Bohème, Tosca / Verdi – Rigoletto, La Forza del Destino, Nabucco / Donizetti – Don Pasquale, Lucia di Lammermoor, L'elisir d'amore / Bellini – La sonnambula / Bizet – Carmen / Mozart – Cosi fan tutte, The Marriage of Figaro / Strauss – Salome / Giordano – Andrea Chénier
SPAZIO LIRICA
Continuing my activity as a director, in 1993 I founded, together with Marco Stecchi, Spazio Lirica in Florence, a cultural association created to support the training of young singers with the creation of operas and concerts. The Spazio Lirica Association is registered in the Provincial Pro Register. N° 1744 Province of Florence. I speak Italian, Dutch, French, English and have some knowledge of German. My passion for opera has always driven me to transmit the value of art and music to the new generations, directing and creating shows that excite and leave a mark in the hearts of the public.
